Darwin ("the app") is built by Sean Meehan. This policy describes how we handle your information. The short version: we collect the minimum data needed to make the app work, and we don't sell or share your information with anyone.
Account information: When you sign in with Google, Apple, or email, we receive a unique identifier and (if provided by the auth provider) your display name and email address. This is used solely to associate your data with your account for syncing across devices.
Task data: The tasks, goals, rankings, and preferences you create are stored in our cloud database (Firebase/Firestore) to enable sync across your devices. This data is associated with your account identifier.
Anonymous analytics: We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage analytics (e.g., which features are used, crash reports). This data is not linked to your identity and cannot be used to identify you personally.
Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, a service provided by Google. When you sign in with Google or Apple, the authentication is handled by those providers directly. We receive only an authentication token and basic profile information — we never see or store your password.
If you choose to import tasks from iOS Reminders, the app requests permission to read your Reminders. This data is read once during import and is not stored or transmitted beyond creating tasks in your Darwin account. You can revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Your data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore (Firebase), hosted in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We do not use custom encryption — only standard HTTPS/TLS provided by Firebase.
Your data is retained as long as you have an active account. You can delete all your data at any time through the app's Settings screen. If you delete your data, it is permanently removed from our servers.
Darwin is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
